Electronics Projects

These electronics projects are designed to give the beginner the satisfaction of completing a project that actually does something.
Arduino ADC as a Voltmeter

Arduino ADC as a Voltmeter

The Arduino Uno has six analog inputs. We use one to make a voltmeter, and add an I2C display.

Arduino - ATmega1284 Linear CCD

Arduino - ATmega1284 Linear CCD

The Arduino environment works for the ATmega1284 as well as the typical Arduino and clones. It has enough I/O and enough RAM to support an external ADC for a linear CCD array.

Serial to TTL Camera Shutter Controller

Serial to TTL Camera Shutter Controller

I have Nebulosity 4 for controlling my QHY camera, but the Nikon D3100 is not supported. For that camera, I need to run a shutter control app. It allows me to setup a sequence of photos with configurable times between to allow for saving the image. Some work by interfacing to a commercial DSLR trigger adapter, like ShoeString Astronomy's DSUSB/DSUSB2. If you want to do it yourself, some will also work with almost any USB to serial converter that brings out the RTS signal. That is what this project is about - making your own using a USB to Serial converter.
